HowTo: Install OsX86 Leopard (iATKOS v7) on Dell Inspiron 1545
OK, this is not a complete howto, since installation is really simple..:
1. Get your copy of iATKOS v7 from the green daemon and burn it.
2. Boot from your drive, if system hangs and reboots, try booting the DVD with “-f” option.
3. Follow the installation steps, format the desired partition (previously created with some other program, and set to type AF).
4. Choose “Custom” installation, and select the drivers/patches as follow:
- iATKOS v7 Main System
- Bootloader: Chameleon v2
- X86 Patches:
- /extra directory
- DSDT
- Decrypters: AppleDecrypt
- Smbios Drivers: NONE (chameleon2 replaces all)
- Kernel: 9.7.0 Kernel Voodoo
- Disabler
- Drivers:
— VGA: NONE
— System:
- SATA/IDE:
AHCI
Intel SATA/IDE (maybe not required?) - Intel Speedstep:
Speedstep driver
Throttling control - Sound: Select NONE, you will install later (you can try Voodoo HDA, but you will miss volume control!)
- PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard: Voodoo PS/2 Driver (without trackpad, cause this version (0.2.1) is still buggy)
- Laptop Battery
- Ext2fs (optional, select if you have linux partitions)
- NTFS-3G (optional, select if you have windows partitions)
— Network:
- Wired: Broadcom BCM440x
- Wireless: Broadcom BCM43xx
- Languages: your favorite one
- Post-Install Actions
5. When the installation finishes, reboot (again, if any errors, try with “-f”) and install the following Audio driver, through Kext Helper:
Driver Audio (mirrored from the original here, must register)

6. To get the infamous 1366×768 resolution, it’s a bit more complicated. You need a working linux installation, and to replace the bootloader with GRUB2, patched with a modded 915resolution, like explained in Consono method.
I recommend you to use the already patched grub2, including GM45 additional patches, getting from here: grub2 patched
Inside the archive you’ll find a grub.cfg example, supposing you have installed Windows on sda1, Leopard on sda3, ARCH Linux on sda5, and that you have copied the “boot” file from chameleon package to the root directory of Leopard partition. Otherwise you can change the “multiboot (hd0,3)/boot” line specifing the right partition/path of the file.
For completeness, here is the patched 915resolution standalone script: 915resolution patched
What about sleep did you manage to get this laptop to sleep at all?
Sorry, it doesn’t work..
Hello =].
I am also trying to get OSX up and running on a 1545.
I followed a different guide originally for the 1525, but everything works fine still, although..
I’m having real trouble getting the 1366×768 resolution using the GRUB2 bootloader.
I’m not exactly great with command line stuff..
I tried installing ArchLinux but couldn’t get it to start up,
so I tried Ubuntu and that worked fine. Just, I couldn’t get the patched GRUB2 to install properly. The default GRUB2 bootloader is still there and instead of a grub.cfg or whatever, it’s a menu.lst in /boot/grub.
Is there any easier way of getting this done?
Or could you give kinda, step by step instructions on that part?
Running OSX on 1024×768 is so ugly xD.
I tried looking at the long forum post but there’s so much of it and even half of that I don’t exactly understand.
Thanks =].

ive been trying all night with using ubunto.
Hello,
Ive got everything running on my dell 1545, 10.5.8 and 1366×768. Audio works but sometimes has popping sound. anyone know a fix for this?
do u have a link or video that will show me how to do this?
Mine makes that sound in windows, bad design
great got every thing to work thanks
hey the sleep is not working at all can you help me fix it? i have a dell inspiron 1545
Hi,
I did all these steps and it works !
But, I have a different graphic card :
- ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4330
I don’t manage to have graphics on normal boot.
It’s ok when I boot in safe mode.
Do you have an idea to fix it ?
Thanks a lot for this guide,
Regards,
Leo.
maybe the extension cache?
Try to boot with -f flag..
Hi i have a question .
The grapihic card you mentioned is Intel 4500MHD but the graphic card from dell site is ntel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD are both these same and is it 100% working without problems?
I am asking as i am planning to get one for hackintoshing
Yes, it’s the same card..
can anyone suggest me whether the dell inspiron 1545 with this configuration is perfectly hackintoshable?
Dell Inspiron 15, Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz), 15.6″ WXGA, 3GB RAM, 320GB, 8X CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD, 802.11b/g, Webcam, 6-Cell Battery
Also can i be able to dual boot windows 7 with it?
And also does webcam work in osx?
also can i upgrade the processor and also does VGA out work?
can anybody answer please?
I am asking this as i need to get one
Is hackintoshable, but not perfectly, as you can read..
The graphics card is supported in vesa mode, without acceleration. The web camera works perfectly. VGA out works pressing Fn+F1 at boot, but you have to pass a different resolution at boot, for example with: “Graphics Mode”=1280x1024x32 (because we got 1366×768 by default, for the internal LCD). Bluetooth and card reader don’t work, and.. this model doesn’t have a firewire, so it cannot make it a perfect hackintosh..
thanks for the reply .
Is there a procedure to dual boot with windows or is it just mac ?
Once you have the partitions, you can install whatever os you want.
I have WinXP, Leopard and Arch Linux. Grub2 is able to boot everything.
The only thing to remember, is to put Leopard in a primary partition, in a secondary it wouldn’t work.
hi deviato i was wondering if this can be done on dell inspiron 1440 as the hardware is very similar to dell inspiron 15
Waiting 4 u r answer
Yes, I think it should work. The chipset is the same, the difference could be on the graphics resolution, I don’t know your hw specs.
Moreover, in case you have an ATI card, the 1366×768 resolution patch should work too, as reported by Leo.
Somebody help me !
I installed OS X on my Dell Inspiron 1545, but the graphic does not support Quartz !! I need to install Logic Studio 9 and without Quartz support it is not working….. help …..?
Thank you !

do i first need to install linux on that partition?
hey man, everything worked just as you said. thanks
the video resolution part is a bit hard to follow the read me in the file too isn’t helpful.
don’t know how i’m supposed to run the files eg via terminal or even which file to run ??
you said it must be run from root
anyway i was just hoping you could break it down step by step on which exact file to run and how to run em
if they are terminal commands
please post up exact step by step commands differentiating from the explanations accompanying them. thanks either-ways anyway man
I wrote a separate howto for that, you can find it here:
http://deviato.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/howto-get-1366×768-resolution-on-dell-with-leopard/
Native resolution on Dell1545 OSX is a 30 second process now. None of this GRUB cr*p, I hope this post can be updated with the most recent info. There’s a 3100 framebuffer kext to install and a DSDT to replace. Reboot. Boom, native resolution. No Quartz, but who cares.
Please can you give me a help on your 30 second fix. Please! My email is JosephS112@aol.com . Please email soon??
Thanks stan your guide has been a complete success, works perfect for me, i do have just one quick question in your last comment you said that native resolution is a 30 second process, well could you help tell me where i can pick up the 3100 framebuffer kext and where can i get the dsdt also and maybe just a quick how to again this was the best blog ever

Deviatos ROCK!!!!!
Hey DAVE, I see you were happy by getting your Native resolution 1366*78 in your Inspiron 1545. Can you email me how you got that Resolution Successfully.
@Andy
If you still have that problem, you have grub legacy installed which is different to grub2. Install a fresh copy of ubuntu 9.10 which comes with grub2 (1.97beta) default.

Just wait several minutes until your computer start sleeping and then wakeup it. After the wakeup the screen will turn on again. It means to be a screen powersave bug.
after notebook turn on sleep close the screen and reopen it to getout the notebook from sleep mode…
This will solve the screen problem.
